About Springfield Special Products

Springfield Special Products was founded in 1985 by Jack Hunt, initially specializing in manufacturing heavy-duty bags for the food and pharmaceutical industries. These industrial-grade bags, capable of holding 6,000 lbs or more, were supplied to major companies such as Lipton Soup, Morton Salt, Green Mountain Coffee, and Corning.

The inspiration for our signature product, the WaterBlob®, originated at Camp Longhorn in Texas. Spike White of Kanakuk Kamps in Branson, Missouri, had been using a version of the Blob made from surplus fuel bladders, but when those became unavailable, he sought an alternative. Hearing about our specialized manufacturing equipment, he approached Jack Hunt with the idea. Over the next few years, they collaborated to refine and develop the WaterBlob® as it is known today—featuring a durable outer shell and an inner bladder for enhanced protection. Since then, the WaterBlob® has been sold worldwide and has appeared in movies, TV shows, music videos, and viral online content. 

At Springfield Special Products, every WaterBlob® is proudly manufactured in Springfield, Missouri. We are a four-generation family business dedicated to quality and customer service. I’m Lorie, and I began working with my father temporarily 39 years ago. Over the years, my husband, Steve, managed the company, while our daughter, Sarah, oversaw production for 25 years. Today, my grandson, Cody, is training to continue our family legacy.

We maintain a tight-knit and experienced team, including our foreman, John, who has been with us for 29 years.
